OMS Owls

Good morning!

We're headed out this morning for a Day trip to Chicago's new Lego Discovery Center much to the delight of my 11 year son and 7 year old daughter. Truth be told, Brad and I are looking forward to it too! It's our annual last vacation weekend of summer and we usually try to do some fun family things together before the kids head back to school the day after Labor Day.

I thought I'd share with you a few class example cards we have on display at Gina's store. These cards were done at a Koh-i-noor Pencil OMS class. We accented a few areas of the stamped image with Crystal Lacquer. In fact, the Rectangle Punchy words were filled in with Crystal Lacquer to make faux page pebbles.

These photos are old ones and aren't the best quality, but you get the general idea. I got tired of always coloring the Owls from Owl Always Love You in grays and browns, so decided to make some bright ones. It's fun to be able to take liberty with your coloring, isn't it? LOL!

Barnyard Explosion Box

Have you ever made an Explosion Box before? This was my first attempt and I love how fun it was to make and decorate!


I found a great tutorial and tweaked it to make it my own. I have a hard time following directions exactly. I like to experiment and see how many embellishments I can add. I learned a few things along the way with this one that will help me when I made another one. This one is a little too full and doesn't close very easily, but I couldn't stop myself from adding lots of embellishments!

My family photos are peeking out, so that you can see that I made the flaps into pockets. The stamps are all animals from a variety of Gina's stamp sets. They are all colored in with Koh-i-noor pencils, OMS, and blending stumps. Then, I went a little wild with the embellishments - googlie eyes, flock, glitter, ribbons, paper punches, liquid applique, flowers, mini eyelets, brads etc. It's really busy!

The cover has flock for grass and the bunnies have liquid applique for fluffy tails. Love the texture both of these elements add to my projects! The paper is all Stampin Up: Blue Bayou, Soft Sky, River Rock, Sahara Sand, and Whisper White solid cardstocks and Porcelin Prints Designer Paper.

Have you noticed how popular owls have become? Every stamp company has an owl stamp - but Gina's are my favorite! These owls have personality, don't they? Those eyes and bellies... so adorable! The two cards I'm sharing with you today are made with one of the owl stamps from her Owl Always Love You stamp set.


The first card is colored with Copic Markers and shaded with Pebbles Pearlescent Chalks & CraftT Embossing Paste. A Spica green pen was added to highlight the middle of the leaves and the orange pen highlights their talons. To add a subtle shine to their eyes, beak, talon, and leaves, I used Sakura's Clear Glaze pen. This pen is great because it dries quickly - which is great for classes!

The second card is embossed with a petite oval nestability and colored with Koh-i-noors, OMS, and blending stumps. Their eyes, beaks, and talons are coated with a layer of Crystal Lacquer. I'm not sure why it looks 'milky' in the picture - it's clear in person. The edges of the vanilla cardbase is shaded with a touch of Metallic CraftT Embossing Paste.
