My Copic Coloring Book

Good morning!

Today I'm showing off my Copic Coloring book that I mentioned in yesterday's post. The photos aren't the best - they seem a little dark to me - but you'll get the general idea, I'm sure!

I started coloring in this book a few weeks ago. Many of the coloring goddesses like Debbie Olsen, Mish Wooderson, and Marianne Walker (to name just a few of the Copic ladies that I stalk regularly!) talk a lot about writing down the Copic Color numbers to use as a reference for remembering your favorite color combos.

Because I teach a lot of classes, this book has been a great tool for me to use when I'm prepping. I make a note of which ink I use and any other issues I have while I'm coloring. If I'm coloring to match patterned paper, I punch out a piece of the paper and glue it to the page as well. I take my book with me to my coloring classes so they can use it to see more samples.

Behind the page that I'm coloring I've inserted a white sheet of cardstock to help control the bleeding of the Copics. The paper is just cut slightly smaller than the book and punched on one side with Stampin Up's Spiral punch. That way, when I've finished coloring one page, I 'tear' it out and put it behind the next page. In the photo above, you can see that I added one elephant with the same spiral punch. I colored that one on SU's Whisper White cardstock.
Sometimes the coloring works and I'm really happy with it - other times, it doesn't. The photo of the page above shows something that I'm not really happy with. I highlighted the upper right flower pot with a light yellow (YG00) and I hated how it looked. But, I'm leaving it in there for me to remember. My coloring isn't perfect - this is my journal to learn and grow my Copic skills with. I like how the actual flower pot and flowers look, just not the shading around it.

The page above showcases the daisies we colored for a recent Stop & Stamp event at GinaK's store. Because we were using Basic Grey's Two Scoops patterned paper, I included 2 swatches of the papers to include the 4 basic colors showcased in the paper pack: yellow, pink, blue, and brown.

The page above is all the things we colored at a recent Copic Class at GinaK's. I trimmed the papers and glued them directly to my book. The numbers we used to color the giraffe are behind the window because I ran out of room to include everything!

I love to use a few other things to shade my Copics after I'm done coloring the main image. The page above references a couple of them. After I finished coloring the Kindred Kids, I took a cotton ball and my Pebbles Pearlescent chalks and shaded the scene to show green grass and blue skies.

Unfortunately, the camera didn't pick up the shimmer that is on the fish and octopus. After coloring everything, I took my Sakura clear glitter pen and aqua painter and watercolored. I've shown this Watercoloring Technique here on my blog.

Have a great rest of your day!

Jessica

Love that little "coloring book"! It was fun to see it "in person" at the store last night, too. Thanks for a great class on the Copics. I enjoyed it a lot and now I just need to get some markers so I can practice, practice, practice!

This is such a fantastic idea! I don't have copics yet, but I may do this anyway, for my water colors and Koh-i-noors. Thank for sharing!

Thank you for showing this book. I always forget what colors I used for what. I'm definitely going to make myself a book. I'm just learning and this is going to be a great asset.

Such a great idea. What kind of book is it? Is is a sketch book or something else?

Amy, I'm sorry - I didn't see your question until today! I used a Stampin Up journal book - but you could make your own with your favorite cardstock and a bind it all machine.
