Botanicals Blog Hop

Good evening!

Tonight we are featuring the new Botanicals stamp set with a special technique themed blog hop event! I chose to use one of my favorite techniques with bold images like the ones in the Botanicals stamp set: Polished Stone.

On my cards tonight, I've used a variety of Ranger's Alcohol inks, their blending solution, blending tool and felts.  If you are unfamiliar with the Polished Stone technique, Gina has a video on StampTV that you are going to want to check out.  Here's the link for you.  She uses different inks than I used on my projects, but the technique is the same.

My first card uses a bright horizon background that I made with a variety of inks all stippled in a row to simulate a sunset ....

Stamps: Botanicals
Inks: Black Stazon; Ranger Alcohol inks
Cardstock: Glossy; GinaK
Other: blending tool, solution, felt, ribbon; button; circle punches

My next card was made with light blue, eggplant, gray, and silver alcohol inks, to make a dark and 'stormy' background.  I wanted to make this one a sympathy/thinking of you card, so I tried to make it look like we feel when we are going through difficult times...

You can see from the close up view the threads of silver ink through the background.  My first card didn't use any metallic inks - you will want to try it both ways!   It's so fun to experiment and play with this technique - it's really hard (if not impossible) to make a mistake with these alcohol inks.  They do all the work for you!

Cardstock: GinaK; glossy
Other: Blending tool, solution, felt; Punch Bunch fern punches

My last card is a collage type/vintage feel one.  I took a couple of pieces of glossy cardstock and used different inks on each one, being sure to use a brown ink (espresso, I believe) on each panel to help tie them together.  They each also have the Copper Alcohol ink on each as well - it's pretty subtle though, so I'm not sure you'll be able to see it in the photos.

After letting the inks dry, I stamped in Black stazon the images from the stamp set and then tore the edges.  Then, I used Ranger's Walnut Stain distress ink to shade the torn edges as well as the entire panel to continue with the 'vintage' theme.
