Tart -n- Tangy

Being a former Elementary Education teacher, I have quite a collection of apples. So when I saw this Tart-n-Tangy Stamp set and coordinating Summer Picnic Paper in Stampin Up's Mini Catalog a few months ago, I had to have it!

To embellish these fruits further, I made my own scratch-n-sniff embossing powder. Splitcoast has a great tutorial on this technique. To make my powder, I mixed equal parts Sugar Free Lemonade with Clear Embossing Powder. I just eyeballed my measurements. I keep my lemon scented embossing powder in a small plastic container.

I stamped the lemons and limes with Craft Ink Spots from SU and embossed with my Lemon embossing powder. To release the smell, you just rub your finger slightly over the fruit.

My favorite way to ink up this adorable apple from the set is with Stampin Up's markers. On the cards above, I used Certain Celery on the inside of the apple and Old Olive on the outside line. The stem is Chocolate Chip and the leaf is Old Olive. After inking it up with markers, remember to 'huff' on the stamp to re-moisten. Then, I stamped a saying from Full of Life (another Spring Mini Catalog set) in a dark enough ink to show up over the apple.

The cards below are done with the same Marker technique - except I used Regal Rose for the inside of the apple and Real Red for the outside.

When I design the cards I'm going to show at my classes, I always play with my designs a little. I usually make 2 - 3 similar cards playing with the layout and embellishments until it looks right to me. At my classes, I like to show everyone the 'evolution' of my projects so they feel comfortable changing my cards to suit their own personal style. It's fun seeing the variety of cards that can come from everyone using the same materials!

I've heard from some Demonstrators who have their new Stampin Up Catalogs that Tart-n-Tangy, Full of Life, and Summer Picnic Designer Paper all made it to the new catalog. I'm happy about that - I think it will make some great Teacher Gift Sets!

Thanks for stopping by!
