My sympathies to you for the loss of your aunt. Other than that, hope you have a great year.My sister was born one day before my 3rd birthday. We would have birthday parties together. 3 of my best girlfriends also had sisters the same age as my sister and we would get together and have doll parties. In fact, I think we may have a couple of photos somewhere of us with our dollies. Now that my sister lives far away, we really miss celebrating our birthdays together. I hope we can get together some year soon and have another birthday party! Thanks for the chance to win the wonderful blog candy!

Here's one of my favorite birthday memories...

I was lucky enough to be born on my Grandma Harriet's birthday - and she was a twin. Growing up, we would get together and share a birthday cake with all of our names on it. I always thought it was so special to share my birthday with grandma and her sister Helen.

When my grandma died several years ago, my Great-Aunt Helen would always send me a birthday card and sometimes include a photo of my grandma in it with her well wishes. I'm sorry to say that my Great-Aunt Helen died just a few days ago on Friday, January 23 - just a day before our birthday. She lived a wonderfully active life and will be greatly missed.

Now, it's your turn - leave me a note about a birthday memory of yours. I'd love to hear it!

Good luck!
Jessica

  1. Happy Birthday Yesterday!!

I loved every year at my birthday my parents would take just me out to dinner. This was a big deal coming from a family of 6 kids, it didn't happen often so I loooked forward to it every year.

  2. Happy Birthday Jessica! My favorite memory is the time I sent a birthday card to a friend that was very Tongue-in-cheek. It said something to the effect that the card was used (it wasn't it was new, but this was part of the humor)and in order to save a tree or something like that, we should send the card back and forth to each other every year. She saved that darn card and returned it to me on my birthday the following fall. And then there's my 50th when she sent me a box full of birthday decorations----all black! A fun friend and birthdays with her around are ALWAYS memorable.

  4. Hope you had a wonderful birthday, Jessica! Thanks for a chance at the blog candy! My favorite memory was the package of little trinkets that my great aunt would mail every year. It was such an exciting day when that box would arrive! There was always something for my brother and sister, too, and the same on their birthdays for me! Such fun!

  6. Happy Birthday!!!!

Ummmm....birthday memory....my most memorable was probably my 18th birthday. My mom got my sister up and they drove around dragging all my friends out of bed in their pjs, then they all pulled me out of bed!!!! We had pancakes and birthday cake for breakfast. It was fun....although kind of humilating at the same time. All the parents were in on it, but none of the girls were.

  11. Mine is not so much a memory as I was too small, but my mother mentions that because she brought me home from the hospital on Christmas Eve, the nurses put me in a big stocking and wrote my birth deets on the inside. I still have the stocking.

  12. I love stories about family myself Jessica so I will share mine. Happy Belated Birthday to YOU! I was turning 27 years old. I was a recently divorced "kid" with 2 precious little boys (almost 1 and 4 years old). This was my first birthday after my husband ran off with his secretary and I really wasn't looking forward to a birthday alone and since my boys were so small, they didn't have a clue it was my birthday. I woke up and no happy birthday wishes. I went to work and no one there knew it was my birthday. I picked up the boys from day care and took them home, fed them, and got ready to go to my ladies bowling league that night. My Mom came over to get the boys and she said happy birthday and hugged me. I am sure I smiled and said thank you, but I was feeling really sorry for myself at that point! I kissed them goodbye and left for the bowling alley. I was in the bowling pit and had just glumly finished a frame when I looked up and what I saw walking down to greet me, put a huge smile on my face, tears in my eyes and become a wonderful memory. There was my Mom and Dad with my boys, my sister and her son with a HUGE bouquet of brightly colored balloons, a cake, and party favors for all 26 teams and singing Happy Birthday at the top of their lungs! The poem hanging from the balloons was a beautiful poem about "love for daughters". I still have that poem 25 years later. It was the best birthday I have ever had in my life and now that Mom is gone and Dad is so frail, I am old enough to be thankful for what I have and the birthdays I shared with Mom and the birthdays I still have my dad. That "kid" grew up and I am thankful for each birthday that God gives me! Renee

  14. Jessica:
Thank you for the opportunity to win something because it's YOUR birthday. It's so fun giving to others.
In fact, my favorite birthday memory occurred last year. My birthday is 2 days after my Mothers and because they're both in May, we sometimes lose out because they're close to Mother's Day. Well last year on the day in- between our birthdays, I took my Mom to Sundara Spa in Wis. Dells and got her a facial and massage, not to mention the indoor and spa-like heated outdoor pool. She cried afterwards because she said she had never been pampered like that before at 77yrs old, which made me cry. I think it will become an annual tradition as long as she's able.

  16. Happy belated birthday, Jessica. I'm sorry for the loss of your aunt, but how blessed you are to have such happy memories of her!

My very favorite birthday memory (so far) was 2008. My husband, three kids, my parents, and I vacationed at the beach. Mom baked my cake and we had a piece on the beach at sunset. Perfection!

One of my favourite memories is that of my 16th birthday when I was lucky enough to get my own phone! Waaaay back then, it was a really big thing. I had to share it with my siblings, but it was in my room, so I had control of it. It was really a special birthday!

  20. Hi Jessica,

I am pretty new to the card blogging world and so I couldn't see any other way of sending you a memory of my birthday except through your email. If this is incorrect, I am sorry to have bothered you via your email. At the very least, I can wish you a Happy Belated Birthday. Also, I want you to know that the cards and info which you present on your blog are very inspirational to me. I have learned a lot from you.

Here is my Birthday Memory. My birthday is the day before my father's birthday. For as long as I can remember we shared the celebrations. The party itself took different shapes over the years, but there was one feature which remained the same until my mom became too old to make it any more. Mom would make us a "from scratch" angelfood cake (13 egg whites....scrambled eggs the next day!) and "from scratch" 7 Minute Boiled Icing. She always garnished the confection with maraschino cherries around the top edge.

Now that mom is gone and Dad is coming 90 this year, I try to carry on the tradition. However, I bow to modern times and use an angelfood cake mix, and yogurt instead of the icing. Not the same, of course, but my dad and I are now making new memories each year that we share another birthday.

Hmm, I remember going to a playground when I was really young and having fun playing with my friends on this 'horse' and crawling through a pyramid (at least I think it was a pyramid!) to the top... not sure why I remember that party but I guess it was lots of fun!

  23. Happy Birthday to you Jessica! I am so sorry about your great Aunt Helen..I have a very special Aunt like that too, so understand.

I have many special birthday memories, my Mom would always make mine special. Both of my brothers and sister's birthday all fall in July..I was the oddball of the family (go figure, ha!) and with mine falling in January, by myself, she admitted she could always do more for mine, lol. But the most special one was the one I shared with her the year she died. She had already been diagnosed with bone cancer, and she was determined to not be admitted into the hospital till after my birthday. We went out, had lunch, went to the park and just talked. She gave me a ring of hers that my dad had made for her with his own hands. Two days later she had to be admitted and never came back home, so was a very good memory for me! I will always cherish that day!

  25. Happy Belated Bithday, Jessica, hope you had a great day. I guess my best birthday would have to have been my 50th. I had a bone morrow transplant 21 months prior, so I was around to enjoy my 50th which was a surprise party thrown my husband and children so it was a big celebration and we've been celebrating for the past 14 years.

  29. Happy Belated Birthday! What a lovely story and how special for you to share your day with two people you love.
I was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1970 to an 18 yr old, divorced mother of a two yr old. I was adopted 24 hours later by my loving parents. Last Thanksgiving was the first year I have been able to share my special day with my birth mom, whom God has brought back into my life. Thank you for letting me share this story with you.

  30. I remember when I was a kid my mom would make a special cake every year for my birthday. She took classes to learn different decorating techniques and would find ideas in magazines and books. She would ask what I wanted and she would recreate it. Now she doesn't have time to make special cakes, but she does make dinner for our family on each of our birthdays and we get to choose the menu. It is nice to have family to spend your birthday with.

  31. Happy Birthday Jessica!

I don't have a favorite birthday memory of my own bday's. My favorite bday memory ever would be a tie between my grandmother's 90th birthday, and my son's first birthday. For my grandmother, we had family come from across North America to celebrate, and it was fantastic! For my son's first birthday, we had a very small party at home, but the look on his face was something I will never forget!

  32. Happy belated birthday wishes!

I would have to say that my favorite birthday memory was the Barbie Doll cake my mom made for me. The cake was Barbie's dress and she was decorated with a frosting dress.

  35. Happy Birthday, Jessica.

One of my favorite memories is that I share my birthday with my parents anniversary with a few years difference.
My Mom always said I was my Dads Anniversary gift.
And I would have two B-cakes; one for my friends, and one for family since we celebrated the anniversaries.

  36. Happy Birthday! I'll always remember my 18th birthday! I celebrated it together with my best friend (who is only 14 days older than me). We just started studying at university and invited both our old friends from college and our new friends from Uni, so there were lots of people and we had a great night with lots of presents and beer! (alcohol is permitted here in Belgium when you're 18)
Thanks for a chance to win! Greetings from Belgium, Annelies

  38. On my big 5-0 birthday, I had warned my DH that he better do something special. And did he ever. A long black limo picked me up and inside were 3 of my best friends and champagne. We picked up another friend and headed to a restaurant for happy hour. At the appointed time (one of my friend was in on this whole thing), the limo picked us up again and took us to another restaurant to a private room where our DH's were awaiting. My DD called me in the limo while we were en route to the restaurant. What a blast and now 15 years later, I still remember the event vividly.

  39. Happy Birthday, Jess! Your birthday memory is so neat, especially that your aunt would send you a card with your grandma's picture. How sweet!

My favorite birthday memory is from my childhood. With everything else my parents did for us, my mom decorated our cakes and I mean decorated like the store cakes now. One time she make me a barbie cake and the skirt of the barbie was the cake. It was beautiful! Thanks, Mom!

  40. Happy Birthday!!

It's so nice of your Aunt to continue to remind you of the fun times!!

My favorite birthday had to be, actually, my 21st. And not, not because of the drinking... but because we were in college and my roommate had managed to talk all of my friends into waking me up (surprising me) at 6 am on my birthday (ON A SATURDAY) to give me cake and presents. And my friend (future husband) had written a message to me in leaves on the ground outside our third floor room saying "Happy Birthday Mary"... the night before. Such wonderful friends!!

Thanks for the chance to win some great prizes!!

  41. Happy Happy Happy Birthday Jessica! It does not surprise me that you are offereing presents to other people on your birthday.

My Birthday memory may seem strange to many of you but we always celebrated the day that we were adopted. My sister and I were 5 and 6 when we were adopted on May2, and we always celebrated our Birth day, our new beginning!

Thanks for sharing your memories and so sorry that you just lost your special Aunt.

  42. One of my fondest memories was of a surprise birthday party my boyfriend and friends threw for me when I turned 16. Since I was the one always planning the parties back then, it completely caught me off-guard when they managed to pull it off and surprise me.

  43. What a great thing to do - giving away the presents on your birthday :)

My favorite memories are from my childhood. My cousin, who was and still is my best friend, and I always had joint birthday parties and since they were in the summer, we had such fun. Swimming, barbeques, camp outs. Those were the days!

  45. My favorite birthday memory, is one that is repeated every year - the telling of the day that I was born. My dad farmed with his older brother and 28 years ago that uncle passed away in a tragic farming accident. He left behind a wife and 4 young children. Our extended family is very close (my dad and uncle came from a family of seven children) and his death was devastating for everyone. I wasn't due until the middle of February, but my mom went into early labour after the funeral and I was born on January 25th. Although my birthday will always be linked to my uncle's passing, my parents, grandmother and aunt always shared with me how my birth brought a renewed sense of hope for them. I can't imagine how my mom must have felt being a first-time mother and grieving the loss of her brother-in-law all at the same time. And yet, my parents chose the name Angela for me, meaning 'Heavenly Messenger' because they felt so strongly that God just knew our whole family would need a new little baby to love and care for - and remind them of His great faithfulness.
Thank you for letting me share this precious memory with you...and for the scrumpdelicious goodies you're offering the chance to win! Hope you had a wonderful birthday and that the wonderful memories you have of your grandmother continue to bring you joy on your special day!

  50. when I turned 40 (yikes) 2 years ago, my mom put a photo album together for me with pictures from almost every year of my life. It was so neat to look back in one place to see all the big moments in my life from baby milestones, to school and college, to marriage and my own babies. And its a good thing I'm the oldest, because she said it was so much work organizing the pictures, that she won't be doing it for my brothers and sister, and I can't tell them about it! Happy birthday Jessica, and thanks for the chance to win!

  51. Well Happy Birthday. Hope you continue celebrating all year long. Since my birthday is on Christmas Eve I can always remember my mom making sure I had my special day. A birthday that was not shadowed by our Christmas celebrations. She would always make sure I had separate presents and she always made sure my cakes weren't decorated in a Christmas theme. I also found out that she would always re-wrap birthday gifts if someone tried to give them to me with Christmas wrapping. Now that I am older all my presents are pretty much birthday and Christmas, so it's nice to be able to look back and remember what my mom di for me to always make my birthday special all by itself.

  52. Happy Birthday! My favorite birthday memory is growing up in the military and spending it in many different countries. THe first things we would learn as kids was learning how to say Happy Birthday and finding the cake particular to that area and eating it! Yum! Fun memories :)

  53. Happy Birthday!! 54. Happy belated birthday Jessica, and I'm sorry to hear about your great Aunt Helen. One of my favorite memories was my 6th birthday. 55. Happy Birthday Jessica! My favorite birthday memory....I have so many! Going back to when I was younger, I remember my 18th as a stand out year. My daddy had left for Saudi Arabia to prepare for what would be the first Gulf war (way back in 1990) and my mom and him had planned (ahead of him leaving) to give me my first pearl necklace with pearl earrings which I still wear today. With not knowing what my dad was going through..., it was quite special to me. Back then we didn't have email, all around the clock news and we were even stationed in Okinawa, Japan and so far from family. Yet, it was so special and I thank the Lord for the memory.

Mine was the 21st! :) My favorite memory is of my father making a big Donald Duck cake for me from scratch and decorating him to look just like he did way back then in the cartoons. 65. Happy Birthday! My husband and I don't normally make a big deal out of our birthdays but always go big for our children (we will go out to dinner but usually nothing more than that and we always have a great time, but the first year at my present job, my husband decided to surprise me with flowers; but the best part about it wasn't just the fact that he got me flowers (and they were my favorites - sunflowers), but he actually walked them to my desk (My office has approximately 100+ people, so he had to pass mostly ladies and of course there were a lot of ohs and ahs). I was completely taken by surprise and still to this day remember how I felt when I saw him standing there. He still does this for my birthday and even though I know he's going to bring them, it's just the anticipation of how it makes me feel that is exciting. He's a wonderful guy.

  66. My birthday memory is when my sweet brother did a surprise party for my 40th a number of years ago. I thought they were taking me to the Fireside in Fort so I got all dressed up. When I got to their house, they were in cords and jeans. We left to go and "had to stop" at a place first and I even noticed some cars in the lot that I knew. Still did nor ring a bell until we walked into the hall and there were 50-60 people I knew--all yelling surprise. So, now I have all of the pictures with me in a dress for one of the few times I ever wear one and everyone else is casual................. Thanks for the chance to write my tale!

  67. Happy Birthday, Jessica! Thanks for sharing your birthday memory with us. I love to think about time spent with my Grandmother when she was alive. She always told me the story about her sister, who shared the same birthday as me. They grew up in Austria, and her sister's birthday was also the same day as the Czar's, so they would toll the bells of the tower in celebration of his birthday. Her sister used to always joke that it was for her birthday:) My grandma loved to tell me that story every year. Thanks for the good memories:)

  68. That is such a wonderful birthday memory, to share with someone you love so much. I will always remembr my 18th birthday, as that is the one when my now-husband proposed to me. It was a gray, rainy day, but he walked me home anyway and knelt down on the wet sidewalk to ask me to marry him.

  69. Hi,
My best memory of my birthday was when I turned 10. I have a younger brother who was then 3 years old. Mom told him when my birthday would be coming and he wanted to buy me a gift. He spent all the money he had gotten from my grandfather as a present on his birthday to buy me a barbie for my birthday. I found that to be very sweet as he sacrificed his birthday gift for me.

  70. Happy Birthday Jessica! One of my favorite birthday memories is when my husband made me a birthday cake. It wasn't decorated very well, but I could see he spent some time on it. When I had the honor of cutting my cake, I felt bad that I couldn't cut it. Then I realized, that he had frosted and decorated a foam square. He later pulled out a real birthday from cake from the bakery!! It was a great birthday!! Christar

  71. Happy Birthday Jessica! One of my favorite Birthday memories was my 50th. My husband arranged for a Mexican Birthday party and bought me a hot tub. Our best friends celebrated with us in the hot tub that night with Tequila shots and lots of laughs. Needless to say my hubby was on the couch the next day! It was a blast!

  74. Happy Birthday

I think my favourite birthday memory was when my now husband took myself ( newly divorced ) and two children to Euro disney, for 4 days.
One evening whilst sitting in the bar he proposed to me, there are no Jewellers in Euro Disney so he made me a ring out of the gold foil paper from his cigarette packet. My children still remember this as he had already aked their permission to ask me.
12 years latter we are very happy.

  75. My favorite memory? Well, my grandma had a friend that could sing and play the guitar. One birthday we were all over at my aunt's house & he sang (and played) along with my grandma (and other family) the traditional mexican birthday song (Las Mananitas). I will remember the sound of that forever - especially since they're both gone now. I imagine that I'll always wish I could hear it one more time, too. :)

  76. A favorite birthday memory is that I always had costume birthday parties, as my birthday is near Halloween--one year I dressed up as a dalmation and had a 101 dalmations party. My mom dressed as Cruella DeVil

  77. Happy Birthday!, my favorite birthday memory was a surprise my sister did for me. When I was younger and had my first shared appartment, I had some coins I collected stolen. She bought me a silver piggy bank and spent years recollecting the coins I had collected and gave it to me as a gift.

  79. Happy Birthday Jessica! I loved my 30th birthday, since I did all the planning. We had a few friends come over to play games and I made dinner for everyone...not everyone's idea of a good time, but it was for me!

  80. My favorite birthday memory from when I was little was for my 7th or 8th birthday. I'm a January baby, and growing up in Germany, that means it's always frosty and chilly (not as bad as by you probably though :D). So one year, we chose to an ice skating party. Me and 10-15 friends all got together and basically flooded the local skating rink. Our parents had arranged all the snacks and hot chocolates (requisite for ice skating) and we all had a blast. Even those of us who could barely keep even on the blades. I wish now that we'd taken pictures, bcause I'd love to scrap that outing.

Thanks for the opp to share a memory :D

  81. Happy belated birthday and my condolences on the loss of your aunt.

I still remember so well the birthday gift I got from my parents when I was 8 years old. It was a lavender (I love any shade of purple!) bike with a white, flowered banana seat (oh my, I'm dating myself!). Anyway, I wanted a bike so badly and I loved it so much when I got it.

Thank you for the chance to win such a great candy package.
