Friendship Gardens

Happy Thursday!

It's a dreary day here in the Madison area with lots of clouds and spring showers in our forecast for today, so I thought I'd brighten it up a little on my blog this morning and show this card I made with Asela's new Friendship Gardens stamp set. I paired it with GinaK's FREE Peachy Keen Digital Papers & some Copic markers to match.

Last year's SU Incolor Groovy Guava cardstock matches very nicely with the peachy keen papers. I always stock up a bit on the incolors before they retire in the summer so I won't be without them when I need them! Are you like that too? I also used the Megabilities Long Rectangle (plain & scallop) Nestabilities for the image & sentiment inside the card.

Here's the inside of the card...

Have a great day and thanks for checking in today!

Sweet Cherry Pie...

Good morning!

Yesterday's cards inspired me to get my Colored Pencils out again last night and color! I wanted to get the edges of the images a little darker to add more depth, so I used my Memento Markers along with my Koh-i-noor pencils. Any markers will work, of course - but since I have the Memento ones on my desk next to my colored pencils, I decided to try them.

I stamped the Magnolia images in Black Memento Ink onto Georgia Pacific cardstock and then using the Koh-i-noor pencils, Odorless Mineral Spirits, and blending stumps I colored the entire image. For the face of this little gal, I used some new Lyra Skin tones colored pencils that I recently found at Dick Blick's store in Chicago. I love the colors in the Koh-i-noor selection, but they don't have any skin tones colors.

Here's a close up of the little gal...

If you look closely (you should always be able to click on my photos to make them appear larger on your screen) you can see the darker edges of the stamped lines. After coloring with the colored pencils, I used both tips of the Memento markers to trace - using the fine tip for the tiny areas and the brush tip for larger.

I was amazed by how it made the colors just pop! On the areas where I felt like the marker line was too dark, I took the pencils again and blended more color to soften the lines.

Did you notice the 'wall' that she is sitting on? While shopping at our local Scrapbooking Store (Scrapbook Superstore for all of my Madison friends) this Sunday, I picked up several of the QuicKutz embossing folders. They have some really fun designs that the Cuttlebug embossing folders don't offer - so I was thrilled to add a couple to my collection! This diamond pattern is one of those folders.

Here's the inside view - look at how perfect GinaK's Sweetest Blessings stamp set works with this card. The flower paper strip is another QK embossing folder. I colored the pie the same way as the other images.

One quick note on combining markers with Colored Pencils... you can use Copics with pencils, but you should always use Copics FIRST so the waxy lead found in the colored pencils doesn't harm your marker tips. Since I don't always think that far in advance, I usually use my Waterbased (Dye) markers instead - lol!

Also, Gina has added two new StampTV episodes this morning that you have GOT to see. She is working with Stazon inks & Tiles to make gorgeous coasters and shows how to make a perfect storage box for four of them with the large clear boxes we sell at GinaK Designs.

She brought her project into work yesterday and we couldn't stop checking them out! They make quick and easy - and inexpensive gifts... and, it's the season for gifts again, isn't it? With school winding down, I've been looking for perfect thankyou gifts just like these for all the teachers who have spent so much time this past year helping my kids. So, this project comes at the perfect time for me!

Have a great day!

Revisiting Colored Pencils...

Good morning!

As regulars to my blog, you probably know how much I LOVE my Copic Markers since I use them all the time! But a few weekends ago, I decided to pull out my Koh-i-noor pencils, Odorless Mineral Spirits and blending stumps and revisit my go-to coloring supplies before I fell in love with Copics.

Because I wanted a 'watercolor' feel to my images, I used Georgia Pacific cardstock for my images. I like to use this porous paper when I want this look for my shading. I also used Tim Holtz's Distress Inks and blending foams to shade the papers and age them a little.

The stamps are all from Stampin Up and everything was stamped in Black Memento ink ...

and the inside of this card...

The theme for PaperCraft Planet's Design Team this month is Mothers/Babies, so I was thinking of that while I made both of these cards. The next card uses the same stamp set, but this time I went bright and springy with the colors...

and the inside of this card...

I fell in love with my Colored pencils all over again with these cards! lol! The one thing that I adore especially about the OMS technique is the control you have with your shading. Copics aren't always as forgiving.

I challenge you - revisit an old technique that you've neglected and fall in love all over again!

Vroom...

I'm in a rush this morning - headed out the door to get to work, but didn't want to neglect my blog any longer! So, here's a quick card that I made and shared during the release last week using Melanie's new Wee-Tees stamp set and some playful Basic Grey Mellow paper!

The circles are a variety of paper punches that I have - EK Success and Marvy - that I ran through a couple of Cuttlebug folders to emboss. I sanded them afterwards to shabby them up a little.

Here's the inside...

Have a great Monday!

PaperCraftPlanet Sketch Time!

Good morning!

It's my week to host the sketch challenge over on PaperCraft Planet - so I thought I'd share my sketch and card here with you to see if you'd like to join us in playing along!

Here's my card to go along with my sketch...

Since our theme for the Design Team on PaperCraft Planet is Babies/Mothers this month, I decided to use Melanie's new Wee-Tees stamp set for my card. I kept everything pretty simple - choosing to use a Cuttlebug embossing folder & Sizzix texture plate to embellish my cardstocks. I rubbed some Versamagic White Cloud ink over the embossing to highlight/distress it a little.

The onesie was stamped on GinaK's White Pure luxury cardstock and shaded with Copics. The little dinosaur was colored and embellished with the Stardust glitter pen & crystal lacquer. I added some tiny baby buttons from Hero Arts for the snaps - aren't they little!?

Here's the inside view...

That little alien ship is so cute! The sentiment is from GinaK's How sweet it is stamp set.

I hope you get a chance to play along with the sketch this week! Feel free to leave the link to your card in my comment section if you'd like.

Have a wonderful weekend - hope there's lots of stamping in it for you!

No hour wasted...

Good morning!

What a party we had last night in Gina's Forum showing off cards and projects made with the new stamp sets that are available now in Gina's store! I'm going to be sharing my cards here on my blog throughout the next several weeks. Hopefully, I'll have a chance to upload them all to StampTV later today so you can check them out there too.

Today's card is one that I made with Theresa's gorgeous Out West stamp set. It's such a gorgeous set - that is a little intimidating for me because of how realistic everything is drawn. But, not to worry! Theresa is our resident tutorial coloring queen! Bookmark her blog - she shows in almost every post exactly how she colors and what colors she uses. It's an invaluable resource to all of us!

I colored my images with Copics and then went over the horse with some brown colored pencils blended with OMS & blending stumps. The frame is from the Curvy Megability Rectangles. The cardbase is Gina's Chocolate Kiss cardstock that I embossed with a Sizzix embossing plate and highlighted with Copper Metallic rub-on paste (from the Holiday collection).

Here's the inside view...

Don't forget to check into the StampTV Classroom blog for our chat later today! Gina and I will be there from Noon - 1 (CST) to chat about our online classes and other GinaK stuff with our online students! Our next chat will be next Thursday, April 30th from 8-9 (CST) pm.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Preview Day 4: Not Forgotten

Good morning!

We've saved one more set to share with everyone tonight. It's a very special set that Gina designed specifically to fit a need that she had once her father died this past winter... a set of sentiments to make cards for our loved ones who have recently lost someone special recently.

This is a stamp set filled with touching sentiments that can be used for anyone who needs a sympathy or thinking of you card. Many of the sentiments are especially perfect for those first holidays and events that are so hard to celebrate when a special loved one is missing from your celebration. Appropriately enough, Gina named it "Not Forgotten."

I made this first card with Gina's mom in mind...

You can substitute the word 'husband' with several different family member names that Gina has included in the stamp set. I chose to build my phrase on my large round acrylic block before stamping so everything could be perfectly aligned before I stamped. After stamping, I used a couple of Nestability dies to cut them out. I stamped everything in Black Memento ink onto Gina's Heavy Base Pure Luxury white cardstock, so the embossed edges would really pop on my simple card.

I paired these sentiments with the leafy sprig stamp image from Tropical flowers and my EK Success Butterfly punch. I also used the new Digital paper pack called Rough and Rugged that Gina designed that will be available later tonight. It's one of my favorites from her because of the masculine colors and patterns.

Here's the inside view of the first card - check out this paper (also from the digital pack)

Some of you may know that my husband recently lost his Grandma. I made this next card for my in-laws to send to them on Mother's Day letting them know that we're thinking of them during this first holiday without Grandma Fick.

I replaced the 'husband' word from the acrylic block and replaced it with the 'mom' stamp included in this set and stamped several of these sentiments out so I could send Brad's two uncles cards too.

Once again, the paper is from Gina's Rough and Rugged Digital paper. I used her Black Onxy as the cardbase for both of my cards because I adore how sturdy it is. I love my Stampin Up cardstocks, but they aren't even close to as thick as GinaK's cardstock! I stamped the flower from Asela's new Friendship Gardens stamp set onto Gina's Pure Luxury white cardstock and colored with Copics.

Here's the inside view...

While I was stamping these cards, I was really touched by the sentiments and was so thankful to have them in my collection for those times when I need to make cards like the ones I've shared today.

Several of Gina's Design Team members have made cards to share today too - here's their links:

Our Release party is tonight from 7-10 (CST) in GinaK's Forum over on SCS - I hope you'll be able to stop by and see some more samples from all of us. I have several to share tonight and know the other DT members do too. All the new products will be available in Gina's Online Store at 10(CST) - so get ready to do some shopping! lol!

*** Also, my Fun with Flowers Online class has been a huge success! A BIG thanks to all of you so who chose to take my first online class through GinaK! We've scheduled a chat for tomorrow (Friday, April 23) from Noon - 1 (CST). This is a time for you to log onto the classroom blog site and ask Gina and I questions about the class or anything Gina sells in her store. We're going to take a little break from all the online orders to rest our feet and chat with all of our students who can join in - I hope you will be one of them!

We've scheduled our next live chat for next Thursday night (April 30) from 8-9 (CST). We hope the later time will help our students who are unable to chat during the day due to work or scheduling conflicts.

For more information about the class, check out the StampTV ClassRoom tab or Online Classes at GinaK's store. I'm beginning preparations for our next online class - so if you have any requests or suggestions on what you'd like to see offered, feel free to email me at jessjean12@gmail.com

Have a great rest of your day!

Day 3 Previews:

Good morning!

Haven't the previews been amazing so far!? We're showing off two new sets tonight - first up is this beautiful new sentiment set from GinaK called Notes to Mom and is the new Free with Three stamp set for this release.

I love the sentiments in this set and know that it will get lots of use!

Isn't that nice? The thing I really like about many of them, is that the sentiments can be used for many other people in your life.

Here's one more card with this stamp set - this time I paired it with a Kindred Spirit's mom stamp...

I colored Rachel with Copic markers and used the Springtime in Paris digital paper that is currently available in my Online Class Fun with Flowers. For more information, on this class, check out StampTV's Online Class Tab.

Here's the inside of the card...

I love the purples and blues in the Springtime in Paris digital papers and used some Prima flowers in my stash to finish off the card.

************** Nurse Feelgood ************

Carolyn King has done it again! She has created a companion stamp set to her Dr. Feelgood stamp set and appropriately enough called it Nurse Feelgood!

Look at how cute they are paired together...

Aren't they sweet? Nurse Feelgood is just slightly smaller than the Doctor - so they look like a cute couple paired together. I stamped the images with my Black Memento Ink pad and colored everything in with Copics. I added a layer of Crystal Lacquer over the doctor bag and the nurse's hat but the camera doesn't pick that up very well.

Carolyn has included some adorable sentiments and images in her stamp set - perfect for get well cards, thank you cards and even cards like this one...
I'm planning on giving this card to my husband for our anniversary next month. I used the 'happy anniversary' sentiment from Melanie's Say it with Flowers stamp set along with a sentiment from Carolyn's Dr. Feelgood set.

I can't wait to see what everyone else has made with the stamp sets this morning... how about you?!

Here's the links for you to check out:
Gina, Erika, Donna, Joanne, Melanie, Kurtis, Emily, Cindy, Beverly, Carolyn, and Theresa

See you tomorrow with one last day of previews
before the party this Thursday night! Also, tune into StampTV for Gina's two new videos. I've seen her technique and you're going to DIE when you see it! Seriously - it's amazing.

Day 2 Previews...

We're showing two more beautiful stamp sets tonight and first up is Asela Hopkin's newest floral stamp set called Friendship Gardens. Asela has done it again by drawing some gorgeous images that just begged to be colored. I am so in love with her flowers and am thrilled to have this newest stamp set of hers in my stamp collection!

I chose to color the flowers on this card with Copics. After I colored them, I took my StarDust Glitter pen and added a wash of glitter over the entire image. After it had dried, I finished it off with a layer of Crystal Lacquer. The finished flowers look like one of those epoxy stickers that you can find at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

I used one to decorate the inside of my card too...

I have a couple more cards with this gorgeous set but thought I'd save them for Thursday night's release party. Save the date! The party starts at 7:00 CST HERE!

********* Out West ***********

Are you as excited as I am about Theresa Momber's new role as Stamp Illustrator!? Isn't she an amazing artist!! Seriously, I was blown away by her illustrations when I first saw them. Not only is she an outstanding designer - she can draw amazingly well!! Just like a few others from Gina's design team that we know, right?! lol!

I have two cards to share with Theresa's gorgeous Out West Stamp set because once again I couldn't decide which ones to share! You know me - I always have to make tons of cards each month because the stamps are just begging to be inked up! Once I start stamping with a new stamp set, new ideas pop up as I'm creating one card - so I have to make several at a time to get all the ideas out!

First up, is a card I made for a special little cowgirl....

Don't you love those cowboy boots!? I stamped the images in Black versafine ink and embossed with clear embossing powder. I love the definition that embossing adds to images - they really pop! Then, I colored the boots with Koh-i-noor pencils, OMS & blending stumps.

When I was finished, I used the N1 Copic to add some shadows under the boots and the Red LadyBug Memento fine point pen to trace over the lines in the boots to add definition to them. Finally, I colored in the heel & bottom of the boots with the Rich Cocoa Marker.

Doesn't the paper behind that lovely Chocolate Kiss Cardstock (which I LOVE and will be added to Gina's store Thursday night) look like snake skin? It's actually cardstock weight vellum (from Stampin Up) that I ran through my Big Shot with a Sizzix Embossing Plate. Here's the inside of the card...

I love that cactus so much, that I made another card with it that I want to share...

I was thinking this would be a nice card to give to someone who is retiring from their job. I decorated the inside of the card but didn't share it because I am waiting on a retirement stamp sentiment to finish it off... I wonder who I can talk to to get one? lol!

Here's the blog links for to all the Design Team members who are showing preview projects tonight...

Check back in tomorrow morning for some more previews from all of us with 2 more stamp sets. Also, be sure to head over to StampTV for two new Videos from Gina tomorrow too!

April Previews Begin tonight!!

Good morning!!

Because Gina is releasing 7 new stamp sets this month, we're beginning our previews a day earlier than usual - yippee! Tonight, we're showcasing 2 fabulous new stamp sets - one from Rupa called Guiding Light and one from Melanie called Wee-Tees.

I LOVE them both and have been having so much fun makings lots of cards with them this weekend! So much so, that I'm sharing 2 cards with each set tonight - I just couldn't decide which ones to show!

I still have a couple of more cards with each set that I'll share during Gina's release party Thursday night (April 23) over on Splitcoast in her forum. Save the date - there will be LOTS of eyecandy amidst all the chatter and challenges!

On to the cards - First up is Rupa's Beautiful Guiding Light stamp set...

I love this lighthouse - and used it on both of my cards that I'm sharing tonight. This set will get a lot of use from me because the important men in my life love the water! My husband and I almost always plan our trips around cities with water and my dad is an avid fisherman. You can imagine how excited I was to see this set as it was being developed and now to have it in my collection!
This lighthouse image was colored on Georgia Pacific cardstock with Koh-i-noor pencils and Odorless Mineral Spirits with Blending stumps. I made the card using the sketch challenge that I shared Thursday over on StampTV.
The patterned paper is a brand new Digital Paper pack called Jersey Shore that Gina will be sharing for free this month! Here's the inside of the cards - check out these fun images that Rupa included in her stamp set...
Look at that anchor and rope! And the sentiments... aren't they perfect!?

Next is another card made with the lighthouse again. This time, I stamped in black versafine ink and clear embossed before coloring with Copic markers. I used a Deckled Rectangle Nestability die for the main image along with some more of that yummy Jersey Shore Digital paper...

What do you think of the netting on this card? It's a new embellishment Gina is adding to her store on Thursday night. It's called Nautical Netting and it's really a great addition to your masculine cards. I used mini glue dots strategically placed behind some of the thicker fibers.

Here's the inside...

The crackle paper is also from the Jersey Shore Digital paper pack. I printed my paper out on GinaK's 80lb. Pure Luxury cardstock. I chose to print each sheet out in the 5x7 photo size, so I could get 2 papers printed out on each sheet.

****** Wee Tees ********

Now, are you ready for a super cute baby set!? This is one of my very favorite sets of Melanie's because it's SO CUTE!! I couldn't stop making cards with it - you'll see why when you catch a glimpse of all the amazing cards everyone has been making with it!

Look at that onesie - and that adorable teddy bear! I used Basic Grey's Sugared Papers along with Nestabilities' Label One dies to make this fun card. Melanie has included a ton of images with sentiments to embellish the onesies (what a shock, right?! lol!). I chose to keep the words with the pictures, so it made stamping out lots of onesies a snap!

Here's the inside...

This time, I stamped the onesie on patterned paper and paper pieced it - super quick and easy! I used a copic marker to add a little shading to it. The sentiment is from GinaK's How Sweet it is! stamp set.

Lastly - check this one out...

How fun is this!? My cousin's wife recently had twins and I'm going to send this card to congratulate them on their little bundles of joy. I used the 'happiness is' sentiment from Melanie's Tee Talk stamp set along with some of my ABC stamps to spell out 'twins.' All of her Tee sets will work with Wee Talk perfectly - don't you love that? A whole family of T-Shirts! lol!

Here's the inside view...

I combined a couple more GinaK sets to finish this card off - the sentiment is from Make a Wish and the 'sweetest blessings' is from the Sweetest Blessings stamp set.

So, are you still with me?! I've got some links to share with you of everyone else's projects they have on their blogs tonight. I can't wait to do some blog hopping right along with you!

Gina, Erika, Joanne, Donna, Carolyn, Melanie, Theresa, Emily, Kurtis, Cindy, Asela, and Beverly - our in the Spotlight Designer for this month!
Melanie has two guest designer's who have been working with her Wee Tee set - so be sure to check out these blogs too: LauraJean and Libby

I've got lots more to share with you tomorrow - so I hope you'll be back then! Until then - happy blog hopping!

Memento Markers & Koh-i-noor Pencils Coloring...

Good morning!

I haven't been able to update my blog lately because my Canon digital SLR camera broke over spring break... boohoo... I have another camera that I can use, but it's not the same... *sniff*

Brad searched online and found out what the issue with it was and then began searching out how to fix it. Last night he found a step by step picture of how to fix it and it was so traumatic, we both said "Let's just get a new one!" Wanna see the photo that freaked us both out?

See that little green arrow - that's showing what's broken on my camera. So, we'd have to take the camera apart so it looks like this to then take it apart even further to fix it. YIKES!! I found out that it wasn't my fault (yay!) but the plastic pin that we would have to replace routinely breaks between 10,000 - 50.000 shots. Since we've had the camera for over 5 years, I'm sure I've taken that many photos!

So, we're shopping for a new Canon Camera - so I can use my favorite lens and attachments with the new one... Wish us luck!

Now, on to the cards for this morning... First up, is a bookmark that I made using a couple of stamps from this adorable SU set called Forest Friends...

These stamps that I'm using on today's projects are bold image stamps. I used both Memento Markers and Koh-i-noor Pencils with Blending Stumps & Odorless Mineral Spirits to shade the images.

First, I colored the stamps with the Water-based Memento Markers and stamped them out on Georgia Pacific 110lb. cardstock that I bought at Walmart. (The only time I use this paper is for this technique - the paper lends itself to blending with the OMS and pencils really well. Otherwise, it's my daughter Ashley's paper to use for her projects.)

Then, I took similar colored Koh-i-noor Pencils and colored over the stamped lines with a couple of shades similar to the marker colors and blended it with OMS and blending stumps. I was so happy with how soft everything turned out - to me it looked like coloring that you may find in an old fashioned Children's Storybook.

This second card uses 3 sets all combined together to make this scene. I thought this was kind of a funny saying to give to a guy, so I used this wise old owl sitting on the branch to go with it! The sentiment is a Sale-a-bration one from this year.

Here's a closeup of the main image panel so you can see the shading a little better...

I'm off to get breakfast for my family and head out to teach Copic Box A coloring today! It will be fun getting together with some friends to color - I love those markers!
Have a great weekend!

StampTV Sketch Card

Good morning!

I'm the hostess this week for StampTV's Thursday Sketch Challenge. I hope you'll get a chance to play along and be entered to win a free GinaK Stamp set valued at $24.95 or less.

I used the new Digital Papers that Gina has designed for my Fun With Flowers Online Class called SpringTime in Paris...

This digital paper is available exclusively for through our online class and it's so bright and cheerful. Gina made a beautiful card with it earlier on her blog. Click here to check it out.

I am brand new to digital papers, but found that I love printing them out just like I print out my photos. When I download the papers and they are all extracted from the zip files, I save them to my picture file. Then, I go into the folder and click on the papers that I want to print out.

I chose the ordinary print option, but made sure to go into the printer properties and clicked on the high quality paper and then on best resolution. This makes a big difference with the printer ink and speed.

Finally, I chose to print the papers at the 5x7 size, so I could get two papers per sheet. I decided to print it out on GinaK's 80lb. Pure luxury cardstock, so I was able to get all 6 papers printed out on 3 sheets of cardstock. The papers are scaled to size, so the patterns are smaller - which is perfect for cardmakers like myself.

There will be 4 new digital papers available next week during Gina's Release - along with 7 new stamp sets and one new cardstock color! One of the digital papers will be free - how great is that?!

Hope to see your sketch card challenge over on StampTV soon! You have until next Thursday, April 23rd to play along.

A Charmed Life sentiments....

Good morning!

I'm sorry I've been slacking a little on my blog lately... but no worries! Gina is releasing SEVEN new stamp sets next Thursday - so I've been working on getting them inky! This release is so diversified, it's got to be one of my favorite ones of all time. Just a little longer and I can start peeking what I've been working on...

So, since I can't share anything new, I thought I'd pull out some cards from last month's release. Both cards were made with Melanie's A Charmed Life stamp set. I used a retired Spring Paper Pack from Stampin Up to make them - I love the bright and cheerful colors.

Gina has two new videos she's sharing on StampTV today - using reinkers and baby wipes! I LOVE the techniques she's sharing and am sure you will too once you see it in action.

She also set up my Online ClassRoom Blog last night - so if you've received your kit and have the passwords, pop over and check it out! We'll have a weekly live chat where you can ask me specific questions.

Everything is there for you - the instructions along with step by step photos, the digital PDF files for you to print out to keep in a 3 ring binder, as well as the two digital paper packs that are included in the class. I've been working with the digital papers and will share some tips with how I print them out here on my blog tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by - and I hope to see you over in the ClassRoom sometime soon!

Pink and Black Butterflies....

I hope you had a nice holiday weekend. We enjoyed family time but are happy to be back home and starting up our regular routines again! I'm sharing a couple of pink and black cards today that I made a while ago with GinaK's take Flight set along with some Hero Arts stamps.

I used the Labels 4 Nestability dies on this first card - I love that shape! For the first card, I cut a frame with it - both from patterned paper and a thin piece of chipboard to help it be a little more sturdy.

For my next card, I combined a couple of nestabilities: the long plain & scallop rectangles with Labels 3.

Then, on the inside, I used Labels 4 again for the writing mat. I have SO much paper and have been enjoying 'pretty-ing' up the insides of my cards too. I used Copics to color all the images on these cards, except for the butterfly inside this card. I used Memento markers to ink up this butterfly...

Have a wonderful day! We're going to be so busy getting the Fun with Flowers StampTV class kits out today. I can't wait to 'meet' all of you who are taking my class over on our special classroom blog!! There's still plenty of time to get your kit - it will be available for several weeks. Another beauty of online classes! If you have any specific questions, you can email me or ask me on our Online Class Tab Section on StampTV.

Also, I have a Copic A box class this coming Saturday, April 18 from 11-1 at GinaK's Retail store in McFarland. (Please call to reserve your spot, even if you've told me you're planning on coming. Since this class was rescheduled, we want to make sure you call the store personally so we can add you to our new class list.) We're ordering the Boxes for the class early in the week to make sure we have them by Saturday's class. Our store number is 608 579-1026.
