Window Card

Card details: Punchy Words, Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, Nana's Nursery Boy Pack, paper piercer, SU blue bayou ribbon

Good morning!

Since so many of my posts lately have been so long, I'm going to keep today's short and sweet!

Like many of you, I love my Nestabilities! They make layering a breeze and are also super easy to use to make window cards.

This photo shows the window better. Can you see all the circle shapes I cut out? The ladies were busy with the dies and the Cuttlebug on this one in a recent Nestabilities 2: beyond the basics Class.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

I love my Cuttlebug Embossing Folders!

Good morning!

Yesterday's trip to Chicago was a profitable one for Isaiah and Ashley - and Brad! The kids got a few Lego sets that they have been busily building since we got home last night. And, Brad picked out an Cycle-Cross Bicycle that he's been eyeing for awhile. We had yummy hotdogs at Chicago's famous
Portillos for lunch after our time at the Lego Discovery Center, which was pretty neat. The kids had a lot of fun and so did Brad and I. Ashley even got to build a Lego duck with one of their Lego Designers who opened his office for visitors. It was a great family day!

Now, on to the cards for today...

Aren't cuttlebug embossing folders the best?! I love mine and use them as often as I can on my projects. The cards I'm sharing today are some that I have on display at Gina's store showing the folders and Koh-i-noor OMS coloring.

For the first card, I inked the folder with versamark before I put the paper inside. Then, I ran it through the machine. After that, I sprinkled the paper with Stampin Up's Iridescent Ice Embossing powder and heat set it. The sparkle with this embossing powder is so fun. The coloring is all done with Koh-i-noor pencils, OMS, and blending stumps, while the shading on all three cards is done with a cotton ball and Pebbles Pearlescent Chalks.

For the next card, I inked the same snowflake folder with Stampin Up's basic gray ink and embossed basic gray cardstock. No sparkle here, just subtle shading. There is liquid applique and glitter on his Santa hat and cuffs - I love using that stuff together. The glitter helps the liquid applique to puff nicely - not so crazy like it can on it's own.

This last card shows how rich some tone on tone colors can be together. I used Caramel ink and caramel paper. I stamped a variety of images from this set to make a beachy scene. Doesn't he look like he's inviting people over for a party at his sand castle? LOL! There is a hint of Crystal Lacquer on this card. I love that stuff too!

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great rest of your day!

OMS Owls

Good morning!

We're headed out this morning for a Day trip to Chicago's new Lego Discovery Center much to the delight of my 11 year son and 7 year old daughter. Truth be told, Brad and I are looking forward to it too! It's our annual last vacation weekend of summer and we usually try to do some fun family things together before the kids head back to school the day after Labor Day.

I thought I'd share with you a few class example cards we have on display at Gina's store. These cards were done at a Koh-i-noor Pencil OMS class. We accented a few areas of the stamped image with Crystal Lacquer. In fact, the Rectangle Punchy words were filled in with Crystal Lacquer to make faux page pebbles.

These photos are old ones and aren't the best quality, but you get the general idea. I got tired of always coloring the Owls from Owl Always Love You in grays and browns, so decided to make some bright ones. It's fun to be able to take liberty with your coloring, isn't it? LOL!

Have a great day and I'm sure I'll have some photos to share from our trip soon!

Spooky Alcohol Inks and a RAK!

Hi again!

I wanted to share this spooky card I made a few days ago while playing with one of the new paper packs that Gina has added to her store. (I believe she'll be adding the yummy packs to her online store next week for her release.)

I was inspired by one of her recent blog posts, to try to cut the paper diagonally. I rarely ever do that - I'm totally a basic shape kind of girl. But after seeing how cute her card turned out, I thought I would give it a try. I used the same black paper pack she did because it's perfect for Halloween, don't you think?

I also used a new stamp set for me on this one, Happy Haunting. It's the same set she used, just a different image from it. Typically, I don't do halloween cards but this set is so cute! And, if you like this set you're going to LOVE one of her new ones she's releasing next week! It's so fun and yes, I'm a tease! LOL!

I thought this house image would be great with Polished stone. Using Ranger's Alcohol inks - Denim, Mushroom, and Silver, it made a perfect backdrop for the spooky house. The house was stamped in Versafine black in and embossed with black embossing powder to really make it pop. The spider was cut out and colored with a couple of copic markers. Then, I put Crystal Lacquer over the body of the spider and using my black Sakura glaze pens, I traced his legs.

And look at this beautiful card I received in the mail a little while ago. Caroline, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get a photo of it and put on my blog! I'm in love with everything you added to this beauty! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness. Caroline's blog is one of my favorites - her work is amazing.

Have an awesome rest of your day!

Stickles to the Rescue!

Good morning!

I know I already posted earlier this morning an ultra long post showing my Acrylic book, but I had to show my 'stickle-fied' Peerless Watercolor cards that I shared a few days ago. I didn't want to add any sparkle to the cards until the gals at the class last night saw them with just plain watercoloring. I was afraid that Stickles or any glitter might take away from the vibrancy of the Peerless watercolors.

How crazy was that, right? Glitter is always better - at least in my opinion! So, we pulled out several colors of stickles that Gina carries in her store and went to town adding their yummy sparkliness everywhere! Pink, turqoiuse, light green, orange, yellow, light blue, fruit punch, cinnamon - you name it - we used it!

On the first card, I added water and white perfect pearls to one of my Ranger Mini Misters and misted the mixture over the card a few times. It adds a subtle shimmer over the entire card. I think the camera picked it up a little... so, hopefully you can see it.

One of my favorite 'students' encouraged me to use colored stickles on the silver brads in the prima flowers. I've never used colored stickles on brads - just the clear ones. But, I took Barb's advice and Oh my word!! I LOVE them! Look - they look like faux jewel brads... how cool is that? Thanks for the tip, Barb!

Here's a closeup of the flowers... Then, Rhonda asked about using a heat gun to dry the stickles. She bravely tried it out on her card and it worked great! It's a nice alternative to letting the air dry and then getting them smudged - especially at classes.

So, as you can see - we had a great class! Thanks, Rhonda, Barb, Becca, and Marianne for coming and painting with me last night. I was so bummed that I forgot my camera because I wanted to take photos of their cards to show you today. I'll try to remember to do that next time. I think it would be fun for you to see how everyone's cards turn out - it's my favorite thing about teaching... seeing how different everyone's cards end up being when we use all the same products.

Have a great day and remember to use those Stickles! LOL!

Fall Acrylic 6x6 Book

Good morning!

Buckle up, because today's post is a BIG one! LOL! I have lots of photos of a new mini scrapbook that I made recently to prepare for another class I'll be teaching in a few weeks at GinaK's store.

I'm calling it my Fall Acrylic 6x6 Book. We'll be using Zutter's Bind-it-All machine along with their 6x6 acrylic book covers and pewter coils. Gina has ordered some awesome new paper for us to use for the book - filled with gorgeous warm, fall colors.

The front and back covers will be decorated with Ranger Alcohol Inks. We just started carrying the entire color rack in the store and I couldn't be happier! Those of you who have taken a few recent classes know how excited I am to have them because we've used them several times in our classes already!

Here's a view of the book opened. Can you see the yummy layers, tags, pockets, and dimension that is in this little treasure? I LOVE it! These kind of projects are my absolute favorite ones to do because there are all these interactive and hidden elements on each page!

The rest of the photos are of some of the pages in my book. Each double spread has one pocket page - filled with extra photos along with a journaling tag. The main photo is on the opposite page. In between the two pages, there is a large office tag that has extra photos on both sides. These large tags have been stamped and shaded with distress inks.

The above photo is the same page as the other photo, except with the tag turned so you can see the other side of the tag. Each pocket top has been punched with either Fiskars Threading Water border punch or the flower punch that you can see above.

For this book, I used Stamping Up's Apple Cider designer paper they released in last year's Holiday Mini catalog. When I started putting the book together, I wasn't sure what photos I was going to put in my book. I was thinking it would be a great place to keep some favorite photos of fall. So, I pulled out this paper and found lots of ribbons to match them.

However, when I started looking through my photo box for some pictures to put in my book, I came across these ones taken several years back of my kids. As I was looking through the photos, I couldn't help chuckle and remember all the fun memories that each photo shows. I had to put them in my book because they made me laugh and what better photos to put in my Thanksgiving themed book. I'm so thankful for my family and was so tickled to see these photos again!

I share my photo story with you because scrapbooking is about telling the stories of your family. It's not supposed to be difficult or stressful. It's okay if the photos don't match the papers perfectly or even if the photos are a little blurry. It's about the memories and the love you feel for the subjects in the photos, not the process. Although the process is pretty fun too! LOL!
How can I not laugh when I see these photos?? The pages above show Isaiah being silly at the Lego Store in Chicago... My daughter being a Spy with her brother's hat on along with this faux leather outfit I found for her at a Second Hand store in town along with her dress shoes .... Ashley climbing a tree because she was scared of a cat - yet she is holding a stuffed cat in her hands!! That one still makes me laugh so hard that I cry... LOL!
I'm really excited about this class and am looking forward to sharing the actual book we'll be making soon. When the papers get in, I'll get going with it and be sure to post it here on my blog!
Have a great day and thanks for hanging in there with me through this marathon post!

Twinkling H2O Class Cards

Good morning!

Today's cards are a couple of the ones that we made at last week's Twinklin H2O class that I had at Gina's store. I forgot to take a photo of the third one... oops!

The first card shows watercolor washing. We added several drops of water to a Pink Paint Pot and let it sit for a few minutes to start dissolving into the paint. After a few minutes, we took out flat paint brush to stir the paint, adding more water if it wasn't a blendable consistency. The paint becomes almost like an acrylic paint, which makes it super easy to paint a background with. On my sample card, I used a lightweight watercolor paper that I picked up at Archivers, but at the class we used a heavy 140lb. watercolor paper which worked much better. Because the paint is heavy and wet, a heavier paper is best. All their washes look better than mine because of it.

After the paint dried, we stamped the T-Shirt in Black Stazon and everyone decorated their tees the way they desired. We used an awesome Basic Grey paper pack for the main papers and the coordinating fibers, buttons, and glazed brads to accent. I love it when things coordinate so easily, don't you?

This second little card is just 2x2 - isn't it cute? Perfect for tucking into a little gift bag. We used Nana's nursery Girl paper pack and picked paint colors to match the sparkly paper. Then, we painted directly onto the rubber stamps and stamped the two images onto Bazzil Textured white cardstock. This technique is a little tricky with these paints because if you get too much water on your paint, you loose the crispness of the image, but if you don't use enough water, you won't be able to stamp it at all. Thus the small size of this card... more time to practice the technique!

Have an awesome rest of your day and thanks for checking in with me today!

Class Cards and Audition Time

Hi there!

I spent the morning at the dentist getting my teeth cleaned, so my post is going up a little later than usual today. Unlike most people, I love going to my dentist. He has done a great job taking care of my teeth and all the ladies at the office have become some of my best stamping friends! They have come to many of my Stampin Up classes that I hold in my home and now have started taking classes with me at Gina's store. How fun is that?

These two cards are the ones we'll be making tomorrow at my Peerless Watercolors Class at Gina's store. These paints are so fun - they are very blendable and vibrant. The cool thing about this class is that every student ends up going home with a Peerless Palette that I've made up for them to use in the class. I use my Palette exclusively when I'm painting with them. It has lasted me a long time and I use it a lot!

We'll be using an aqua painter and a flat watercolor brush to paint 3 ways with these Watercolors. The first card show 2 techniques: watercolor washing (for the background) and painting the watercolors directly on the rubberstamp before stamping the image. The second card also shows a modified watercolor washing and then traditional watercoloring with an aquapainter.

These paints blend beautifully and allow you to layer colors over the top of them without them muddying up. (Is that even a word? LOL!) A great example of that is the brown sand and the green grass on the card above. I painted the brown sand over the entire bottom of the image - going right over the blades of grass. After it dried, I was able to add the green grass and it stands out great over the brown.

One thing that is really important in using these paints (and other watercolors), is to make sure that you have a good heavy, high quality watercolor paper. I used a 140lb. Cold Press watercolor paper. Because the paper is so heavy, it held up really well and didn't buckle at all. I used my heat gun to dry the image after my watercolor washing because I use a lot of water for this technique.

More General Cards

Happy Sunday!

Today's cards are some more Stampin Up cards of mine. They are both generic enough to use for almost any occasion. I try to always keep lots of these kinds of cards on hand, don't you?

The first card is a 4.25 square card - I just adore this size for cardmaking. They fit in a regular sized envelope. When I make this sized card a lot of times I'll have a little overhanging element to one side, which will still fit perfectly in my standard Stampin Up envelopes.

The Tree card has lots of bright spring-like colors on it - pale & perfect plum, old olive, and rose red. I stamped background stamps on the pale plum and rose red papers and inked the trees in black ink and stamped it on shimmery white paper from Stampin Up. Then, I took my daubers and swirled the same colors of inks all over the image to add shading everywhere. The envelope punch is from McGill. I like the little flowers spilling out, don't you?

Can you believe it's the last week of Summer already?! We've been watching the calendar inch closer to Labor Day. My kids start school on the Tuesday after Labor Day. My daughter Ashley is so excited to start school. Her bags are pack - and have been for a few weeks now! While my son Isaiah, wouldn't mind a few more weeks off.

I'm torn - I love the flexibility and laziness of summer but like the routine of school too. It's just all the homework, projects, bedtimes, and driving around that gets old pretty quickly, doesn't it? My kids have great teachers though and do well in school, so it will be fun to see how much they'll learn and grow this year. We're going to enjoy our last week of freedom - that's for sure!

Have a great rest of your Sunday!

Birthday Whimsey

Good morning!

Today's cards feature Stampin Up's recent Sellabration sets Birthday Whimsey and Full of Thoughts along with their Happy Birthday jumbo wheel. I love it when lots of different stamp sets work so well together!

The first card also uses the Word Search Background stamp. I think it just retired, didn't it? I used the same colors on all three cards - Creamy Caramel, Real Red, Ballet Blue, Always Artichoke. I pulled the color combination from SU's color coach.

The cake and presents were all stamped in Craft inks and embossed with Irridescent Ice Embossing Powder. Otherwise, the card details are pretty self-explanatory, so I won't bore you with the details!

Have a great day!

Flower Girl Frame

Good morning!

Remember the photos I used of my daughter Ashley in the Pink StarBook I shared with you last week? Well, here's some more photos from that photo shoot that I wanted to highlight in a bigger way. She was such a little poser that day! She had a dandelion and a hosta leaf in her hand and was very proud to pose for me with her little bouquet.

One of my favorite ways to highlight photos is to take an ordinary frame and decorate it like a scrapbook page. I used a variety of GinaK's stamps - the same ones that I used for the star book, in fact. They are all colored with Copic Markers.

Here's a few close-up shots of the images. I'm sorry that the photos aren't the best - the glare from the glass muddied up the large photo especially...

I chose 4 of my favorite photos to highlight and then used a Spring DCWV Paper pack to mat the other openings. The solid papers are actually glitter papers, so they are really sparkly. Prima flowers, gem rhinestones, and flat pearls finish off the embellishments. To add a final handmade touch, I took my .02 Copic Multiliner and edged each frame with lines and dots.

I'm going to offer this project as a class at GinaK Design's store next month. But, instead of a flower theme, we'll be making it a Fall Frame using Fall papers and some of her new stamp sets that she'll release at the beginning of September. You're going to love them! Check the September class list for the date of this class.

Have a great day!

Simple Cuttlebug Cards

Good morning!

Today's cards were made with one of my newest favorite Cuttlebug Embossing Folders. I embossed the folder on DCWV paper. The camera really picked up the awesome texture of their cardstock. I used a sanding block to distress the embossing so that it could reveal the white core that DCWV paper has.

Then, to decorate the leaves I added some white and cream prima flowers and put a Hero Arts mini pearl back to the centers. The stamp sayings are from Asela Hopkin's Flowers for Daisy stamp set. The saying label on the front of the card is the longest Nestability ribbon label. I've been so happy to see that most of the sayings from GinaK's stamps fit on the two sets of Nestability label dies that I have.

I also showed the inside of the cards. I think it adds so much to your card if you have to time to finish off the inside, don't you? I don't always take the time to do it but have been trying to make more of an effort to do it lately.

I ended up making 8 of these cards to have on hand. Sympathy cards are always needed, but not the easiest ones to do. I wanted these cards to have a sense of hope and renewal ... and I think those little delicate flowers helped achieve that.

For those of you who are interested in September's Class List for GinaK's store, you may want to scroll to the bottom of my blog page. I've added a calendar that lists all the classes I'm offering for next month. We're adding several daytime classes this month - which I'm really excited about! To sign up for any of the classes, call Gina's store at (608) 579-1026 or email me at jessjean12@gmail.com . Gina will be adding the list to her website soon.

Have a great day!

August Stop & Stamp Cards

Hi!

These two cards are the ones we'll be making at Saturday's Stop & Stamp monthly event at GinaK's store in McFarland. Each month, I teach a modified make and take event. We do 2 cards showing different techniques and new products that we carry in the store. The cost of the class is $5 or free with a $50 purchase. The class times are from 10:30-3:00 on Saturday, August 23rd. I hope you can come if you are in the area!

This first card shows off a new line of paper we saw at CHA. We have several different paper packs from this company in the store. She'll be adding them to her online store soon. Gina's Halloween Trick or Treaters Card she shared here shows off another paper pack - all in Black & White. The paper comes in a 6x6 pad, is double sided and has a great lightweight feel to it - perfect for layering. It also has texture to it - a lot like the DCWV paper does.

The first card's image will be colored with Copic markers. We just began carrying two awesome ink pads for your Copics - Memento and Ranger Adirondack. They make using Copics a dream. This class is a great way to try out Copics if you haven't been able to do so yet.

This photo shows the inside of the card. Everyone will be able to choose the paper that they want to use from this paper pack called. We're going to be using the entire sheet of 6x6 paper - can you see how we'll squeeze it all in? The front will be cut to 4x6 and then scored and folded up to reveal the backside of the paper; the inside will be lined with a 2x4 panel; and the left over 2x2 square will have it's corners rounded and serve as a layer for the scalloped circle! WHEW - see no waste! No scraps! Yay!

Did you notice the dots around the Marvy Scallop Circle? It was made with some new Pentel Metallic Pens we found at CHA. They are really neat and great ones to add to your pen collection - if you're a pen addict like I am! I can never have enough of them! I pierced a hole in each scallop first and then went around the hole with the pink pen.

The last card shows off Ranger's Alcohol inks that we just began carrying in the store. Thank you, Gina! I'm so excited that we have them now! We'll also use a new Cuttlebug folder and highlight it with a Cream Chalk Cat's Eye - I actually used it to highlight the entire card. It also uses the amazing new Fiskar's border punch - don't you love it?

I hope you enjoyed the peek at Saturday's cards! Hope to see you there!

Jessica

August Christmas Stamp a Stack Cards

Hi!

I have a quick post this afternoon to show the cards we'll be making at tomorrow's Christmas Stamp a Stack class at GinaK Design's store in McFarland.

The class attendees will be making 3 of each card - for a total of 12 cards.

I know this isn't a traditional Christmas set - but I thought it was a perfect flower pot image to show off with the polished stone technique we'll be doing with Ranger's Alcohol inks that we just started carrying in the store. There are copper stickles in the center of each bloom.

Here's another polished stone card. This time, we'll use Ranger's Distress reinkers and Rubbing Alcohol and then cut it out and emboss it with a standard nestability oval. This technique is a great one for mass producing cards, since there's no coloring.

I had to use my favorite Christmas tree stamp from Gina's set Spirit of Christmas again. This time, we'll use different sized Rain Dots to decorate the tree. The inside of each of the 4 card designs will be lined with a neutral cardstock to decorate as well, if they'd like. This one shows off one of the new edge Cuttlebug folders that we just got in the store.

This final card has very little stamping. I love the new holiday Cuttlebug folders that just came in and wanted to use them on each card this month to show the versatility of them. Notice, we're not using patterned papers this time - the folders are an economical way to make your own patterned papers! To highlight all the folders, we'll be using Ranger's Distress Inks and the new Blending Handle and Foam Pads we started carrying in the store. I love the soft look you can achieve with these tools.
I'm excited to see everyone tomorrow afternoon! Last month's Stamp a Stack class was a blast!
Have an awesome day!

Gift Notecards

Good morning!

Today's cards are some of the other cards that I made over the weekend with two Stampin Up sets: Bitty Birthday and Heard from the Heart. I wanted to use up some Kiwi Kiss scraps that made perfect little notecards. They ended up being 3 x 4.25 and I had enough scraps to make 4 of them.

I stamped the birthday images in Black Momento Ink on watercolor paper and watercolored them in with In Color Reinkers and my aqua painter. My ink bled a little... which I'm not sure why since it says that it's waterproof - I hate that! I tried to cover up the little boo-boos with Diamond stickles.

I used all the In Color reinkers to watercolor the images with. I was surprised how well the blue bayou stitched ribbon worked on the above card. I don't have any of the new in color ribbons yet, so had to make do with what was in my ribbon scrap drawer.

The card below uses the cupcake image from the Sock Monkey set. I was able to squeeze in all the colors on this one too - see the light pink frosting? I used the crimper again to add the score lines to the card base, but the lines aren't the straightest, so don't look to closely! LOL! It's been crimping crooked for a long time now and I need to get a new crimper, but don't want to spend the money on a new one since I don't use it that often...

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

Jessica
